General Information

Welcome to Reception!

We are really excited to start the autumn term as we know that year ahead holds lots of fun, laughter and learning! Below is some important information about life in Reception.

If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment to see a member of staff, please write a message in your child's Learning Journal or contact the school office.

Teacher: Mrs K Rogers

Teaching Assistant: Mrs K Lockley

Teaching Assistant: Mrs L Cady

For this half term, PE will take place on Thursday afternoons. PE will be taught by our PE specialist teacher Mr. Lowe and will take place both indoor and outdoors weather permitting. It is vital that your child has their full PE kit in school at all times. This kit should be brought in at the start of every half term and will be sent home at the end of that half term to be washed.

Home Learning

At St Thomas, we value the importance of reading widely and as frequently as possible. For this reason, we ask that children read five times per week; this can be from a school reading book, a home book or even a library book!

Learning Journals

Learning Journals are an important part of life in reception! They should be brought into school daily (in a St Thomas' book bag) and taken home at the end of each day. Home reading should be recorded in Learning Journals and signed by an adult. Learning Journals are checked every Monday morning.

School Library

We are very fortunate to have a wonderfully atmospheric and well stocked school library here at St Thomas' also known as the Deep Dark Wood.  Every Tuesday morning the children in reception will visit the library in their colour groups to select a reading book that they can take home and enjoy for the week.  Library books do not need to be kept in book bags, they can be removed and kept at home.  Please just ensure your child has his/her library book in school every Tuesday - ready to swap on library day! :)
