Year Five Information
Welcome to Year Five!
We are really excited to start the Autumn term as we know that year ahead holds lots of fun, laughter and learning! Below is some important information about life in Year Five.
If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment to see a member of staff, please write a message in your child's Learning Journal or contact the school office.
Class Teacher: Miss Murphy
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Watkinson
Learning Journals are an important part of life in Year Five! They should be brought into school daily (in a St Thomas' book bag) and taken home at the end of each day. Home reading should be recorded in Learning Journals and signed by an adult. Learning Journals are checked every Monday morning!.
If your child has earned or lost behaviour points, these will be recorded in the behaviour section of their Learning Journal.
At St Thomas, we value the important of reading widely and as frequently as possible! For this reason, we ask that children read five times per week: this can be from a school reading book; a book from the school library or a book from home!
We are still part of Times Table Rock Stars which means that we would love your child to continue accessing TT Rock Stars at home. This will support your child's progress and boost their confidence in maths.
Spelling tests will take place every Friday morning. Spelling sheets will be sent home at the start of every half term (a copy will be uploaded to the Year Five 'Home Learning' page).
At the beginning of each half term, your child will bring home a Knowledge Organiser for Science, History, Geography and RE. This A4 sheet will include the key knowledge that your child will be gaining during their current unit of work. Your child will be expected to remember as much of this as possible, so independent study will be very useful! For more information about how to use knowledge organisers at home, please see the Year Five 'Home Learning' page.
Year Five will have outdoor PE every Tuesday afternoon.
Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school at all times. This kit should be brought in at the start of every half term and will be sent home at the end of that half term to be washed. As some PE/games lessons will take place outside, children should also have a navy tracksuit (with trainers) for the colder months.
