Equality and Diversity at St Thomas' C of E School
The following information is published in line with the Equality Act (2010).
Under section 149 of the Equality Act (2010) the public sector has a general duty in relation to equality, which commenced on 5 April 2011.The general duty has 3 key aims that local authorities should strive for:
- Eliminating discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Equality Act;
- Advancing equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic (see below) and persons who do not share it,
- Fostering good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.
Protected characteristics are defined in the Equality Act (2010) as follows:
·pregnancy and maternity
·religion or belief
·marriage and civil partnership
